Roaches are disgusting and nasty pests that can destroy food, damage your stuff and make you and your family sick. If you aren’t ready to deal with it, a roach infestation can be tough to deal with, but here are some tips and tricks that will help you to get rid of roaches.
If you’re a hands on type of person, you can make your own highly effective roach killer. Mix equal parts sugar, flour and boric acid and place it around the areas of known roach activity. Roaches will be attracted to the sugar and carry what they think is food back to the colony where the boric acid will begin to eliminate them.
If you’d rather not get your hands dirty and just want the problem solved, there are a wide variety of roach baits and roach traps that are readily available for purchase. The store bought baits will work in the same fashion that the home made bait described above would, by luring the roaches in with something they like and have them carry a toxic poison back to their nest. The traps will lure them in and keep them there with an adhesive until they die.
Most infestations can be handled with one of the methods above, but some severe problems may require that you contact an exterminator for spraying. Regardless of how you go about getting rid of your roaches, it’s important that you exercise preventative maintenance following the elimination. Keep your kitchen and bathroom clean and free of dripping or standing water, caulk cracks in the foundation and around windows and doors and promptly clean up after messes anywhere in the home. If there is nothing in your home that the roaches are interested in or if it’s too difficult to get inside, they’ll likely move on to an easier target.
