To be able to use Facebook and thoroughly enjoy the features of the Internet’s largest social networking site, if you haven’t yet joined, access the site and sign up at http://www.facebook.com/. Fill in the required data which are the age, name, a password, and a valid email address. Your login is the email address you used during the sign up.
When you login to Facebook, the page that it opens is the Home page. On the right of top blue bar where you see the word ‘facebook’ are 3 icons which are ‘Friend Requests’, ‘Messages’ and ‘Notifications’. The search bar can be used to find people, events, and groups. On the right you will see ‘Home’, ‘Profile’ and ‘Account’ and these are what you click to access each specific page.
The first thing you might want to do is to ‘Edit your profile‘. This link can be found where the picture is to be placed on either your Home or Profile page. Upload a picture and place in the information that you want people to know. The next thing to do is to go find and add your friends. This can be done by using the blue bar search box to find someone by typing in the name or email address or using the ‘Connect With More Friends‘ option that can be found on the right side of your Home page.
Place status updates into your Profile page. You may comment, ‘Like’ or ‘Dislike’ status updates in the ‘News Feed’ in your Home page or on a friend’s wall. In maybe a couple of days, many friend requests will be accepted and you will be surprised when invited by people you haven’t seen for quite sometime or maybe don’t even know. You have the option to add, ignore or block the person who invited you. The ‘Account’ tab is used give you more privacy to limited viewing of your Profile page according to the settings chosen. Do check your ‘Friend Requests’, ‘Messages’ and ‘Notifications’ when you see a red box highlighting a number beside the icon.
Create photo albums and share these pictures with your friends by using the Tag option which can be found at the bottom right of each photo. Videos, links, and even notes can also be shared. On the right of your Home page, there are event invitations and birthday reminders. To write on someone’s wall to greet them or leave a message, access the Profile page of the person by typing in their name from the search box or clicking ‘See All’ in the ‘Friends’ box which is on the left side of your Profile page. You can also send a private message a person by accessing the ‘Message’ icon. If you want to create an event, click the ‘See All’ in the ‘Event‘ section at your Home page.
On the left side of the Home page, click the ‘More’ so that you can start using applications, join groups, and play games like Farmville and Mafia Wars. At the bottom right of any page is the ‘Chat’ box and you can set it so you will appear online only when you want and to select the people you want to see you online. If you want to use Facebook for business, you can send info using your status updates, sharing links, creating events or an ad.
